Nominations open: Assorted awards

by Chris Walton

Current BuzzBetween now and January 14, please comment on this post to nominate candidates for the following assorted awards in the First Annual Unitarian Universalist Blogging Awards:

  • Best Commenter: Please include a link or two to blog entries or forum topics featuring the nominee's comments.
  • Top Candidate for the Wayside Pulpit: This is the award for bon mots, aphorisms, memorable statements, witticisms, etc. Please include a link to the entry in which the statement appeared. (The Wayside Pulpit is a poster-sized sign outside many Unitarian Universalist churches featuring a thought-provoking statement for passers-by.)
  • Most Likely to Turn into a General Assembly Workshop: The award for the most useful UU resource or practical idea introduced in a blog entry. Please include a link to the entry you are nominating. (The annual General Assembly features a wide range of workshops on congregational leadership.)

Eligible candidates for these awards must have appeared on a blog or online community written by or addressed at least in part to Unitarian Universalists during the calendar year 2004.

Chalicechick nominated these blog entries along with her general excellence nominations, so I'm cross-posting them here for her. —CW

Best source of GA workshop ideas: Adventures in Small Group Ministry

Best single GA workshop idea: Expanding on Adventures in Small Group Ministry's post on discussion groups and tragedy into a workshop on services in response to tragedy, especially one that focuses on practical issues.

Best Wayside pulpit:
"Alone, we can only move buckets. But if we work together, we can drain rivers." --The Brady Bunch Movie
(Which never appeared in any blog, I just like it)

Jeff Wilson for best commenter. See http://www.myirony.com/posts/2004/12/16/will-uuism-matter-5050-chance/ for an example. I remember a similar exchange over at Boy in the Bands a few weeks ago, but can't seem to find it just now. Always thoughtful and thorough.

Best GA Workshop resource: Phil Lund's seven-part series on family ministry at Phil's Little Blog on the Prairie, which he diligently posted in weekly chunks from May to July. Intro; Part 1; Part 2; Part 3; Part 4; Part 5; Part 6; and Part 7.

I'll gladly second Jeff Wilson for best commenter. In the interest of having multiple nominees, though, I'll also nominate smcisaac from the Beliefnet UU Forums, where he is almost always interesting and informative. I love knowing that there are other UUs who care about distinctions between creeds and covenants — see comment 8 — but that's sort of a high-falutin comment to point to, not to mention it's from 2005! But he's the Beliefnet commenter who stands out in my mind from 2004. Chalicechick, however, is much funnier. And, if we could nominate an entire flock of commenters, I thought the "Round Robin" at Beliefnet was hilarious, revealing, and showed pretty much everyone at their best.

Which is funny to me because I thought it highlighted me at my most anal and control-freakish.

Uh, CC, that's when you are funniest.

Shucks, thanks, Chris.

Darn, and I sort of lost interest when it seemed that nobody was reading it. Now the we know we have fans, it should probably get started again.
